Bes was portrayed as a dwarf with a crooked, disproportionate body, with broad shoulders, a flabby chest, a swollen belly, short curved legs, long arms, and a tail that protrudes from the crease of the thigh and falls to the ground.
The features of the face were broad and full, with a square beard, and a lion’s mane, from below which his ears were visible, the nose was snub, and his tongue extended out at times. His head was usually topped with a crown of feathers, and sometimes it was depicted with the genitals visible.
“Bas” was portrayed in a frontal position, a position that he and the idol “Bat” excelled at. He was usually depicted with a short kilt attached to a belt, and an animal tail hanging from behind. Sometimes he was shown naked, or wearing the skin of a leopard or a lion.
