The sistrum was one of the symbols associated with the goddess (Hathor), and it was not just a musical instrument, but an important religious symbol associated with many religious myths in Pharaonic Egypt. The shape of the sistrum took the form of development, and since the eighteenth dynasty a new form of sistrum appeared, where the upper part of the rectangular shape that represents the naos was replaced by a curved part in the form of a collar or arg, and this shape was known in the Egyptian language as (sxm), and this shape was closer What would be the form of the hieroglyphic sign (ankh anx), as it began to evolve after that, and forms associated with the goddess (Bastet) appeared, as the goddess (Bastet) appeared in many statues carrying in one of her hands a female figure and in the other hand a basket with her children, as she was associated with the goddess Isis of the Greco-Roman era.
The sistrum was depicted in many scenes in tombs and temples in the New Kingdom and the Late Period, whether in inscriptions related to the religious celebrations of the various gods or special royal occasions. In the Amarna era, the queen and some princesses were depicted holding the sistrum during the celebrations of the god (Aton). Several scenes were also depicted on the small gilded cabin of King Tutankhamun, in which the shahlila appeared, including a view of the queen (Ankh Sn Amun) carrying the shahlila and wearing the cow’s horns and the special sun disk The goddess Hathor. During the Greco-Roman eras, the use of the sistrum extended outside the borders of Egypt with the worship of the goddess Isis wherever it was found. The sistrum continued to be used during the Byzantine era inside churches in performing religious rituals.
